The Arbitrary Concept Of Happiness

It's been a while since I've written much of anything. Call it a busy schedule or just complete lack of inspiration. But today, I find myself sitting in front of my computer screen, trying to frame words into sentences, thoughts into palpable combinations and basically trying to get images out of my head by putting it out here, for the whole world to see.

I'll bring about a rather disturbing subject, death. By this, I don't necessarily mean the phenomenon of death solely, metaphorical death can sometimes be stronger, death of the soul as the poets say. But only they know, that death, though changed in perception can never be beautified.Especially if it's a lingering process, when you wake up one morning to find that, the sunlight hitting your face doesn't really touch any part on the inside, you're simply hollow. When the tears streaming from your eyes aren't even recognized as a separate element and that smile you put on to get through the day, is plastered on your face, no matter what the context, ranging on abnormality.

You'd be surprised how many people you cross in a day, who function like this on various degrees, but you'd never know because that's all the effort they put into themselves, to seem functional, normal in the eye of the crowd. Maybe to avoid a river of questions they couldn't possibly answer, or even begin to comprehend. They want to stop creating trouble before they've even understood the raging storm going on inside them, spare people the inconvenience. Prove to themselves, that maybe, if they pretend long enough, they would actually turn into the persona they falsely created.

You see, the physical element of death is perhaps the only palpable kind, because people can visually see you lying on the ground, not moving, wrapped in a symbolic white cloth insinuating a loss of life, they mourn the lack of your presence, the space you've left empty on the surface of earth. But when it's on the inside, it's passed off like a phase, because there are several reasons to be happy, isn't there? But a single reason is dominant enough in your cortexes putting all the others in the trash, keeping the possibility of happiness out of your system..you see, "try and be happy" isn't really the most profound advice then..it just reminds you that you can't. Things you could do easily before, like laugh at a stupid joke, join in on a group picture, just the act of finding happiness becomes herculean, there is just monochrome all around, like someone else decided to direct your life and they wanted it in black and white, different script, even actors..because you're not you anymore. You're not anything anymore.

There is no particular direction to this post. Just a reminder that if you see people like this around you, or just passing you by, try to talk to them, maybe just sit next to them and not talk..that helps too. And one day, they might actually let you in and unknowingly with just a little bit of attention, you'd make their lives better.

P.S- Just remember. If you find yourself to be one of these people, it's temporary. No matter how permanent it might seem to be right now, there is a way out of it and perhaps it's just time.

Goodbye, my fleeting humans...
