My Intense Obsession over Gorillaz Characters

People often ask me….why gorillaz?..I mean why draw things that don’t even exist in real life?...just lifeless animations dancing and grooving over massive beat, well, semi beat songs. They mean to say that drawing should make sense. But that’s not true!!...not all drawings need to make sense..and why should I draw flowers and mountains and shit??.....thousands of people are making those. I would like to make something that I myself find unique and intriguing. Something that I find out to be ordinary and different.  And to me..these lifeless characters make sense…maybe not to others…but to me. And not just because I listen to the band’s music, it’s just that the characters have a life of their own within these songs (at least I think so)…something that they don’t show in the videos. .something out of the music they try to portray..and I find their individual personalities interesting. And I don’t care about other people’s perspectives..I care about mine. People might find my selective drawing subject a bit vague and out of line..but in my case I cannot draw something just by simply looking at it. I need to find that certain aura about an object that compels me to draw it. As I am “NOT” an artist (just of sorts)…I don’t have much to choose from. But, looking at the technique and complexity (which is just a fancy way of saying ‘weirdness’) of these characters I am drawn towards them. I am not consistent in drawing, not at all. It all depends on my mood….I mean sometimes I draw three days straight….and then I don’t draw for the next four months, thus every picture I draw takes more or less 3 months. I don’t know when my collage will take it’s form….it may be finished by the time I graduate..or not even then..I don’t really care anyway. I don’t plan about these things when I actually start drawing..I just…draw!... Anyway, this random subject must come to an end…so I’m ending this post with a line from one of my favourite Gorillaz song called Feel Good Inc….” Windmill, windmill for the land. P.S-Their font is awesome too!!..they write their band's name in different fonts on different albums.
